The BIO4COAT consortium brings together 10 partners from 6 countries, including research centres, universities, and industrial companies. Together, they combine expertise in chemistry, biotechnology, materials science, and sustainability to scale up biobased coating solutions and ensure their industrial impact.

  • Spain

    FUNDITEC is a non-profit technological centre based in Madrid, established in 2003 as a Spanish Private Foundation. With a strong market-driven and applied research approach, FUNDITEC acts as the coordinator of the BIO4COAT project. The organisation will also lead the development of bio-based polyurethane (BioPU) coatings from polyester-polyols of renewable origin, validating their performance under demanding and extreme conditions. Through its RESEARCH division, FUNDITEC works at the intersection of advanced materials, digital technologies, and agri-food innovation, contributing to Europe's green transition and social impact objectives.

    Novamont is a certified B Corporation and Benefit Corporation, and one of a global leader in the production of biodegradable and compostable bioplastics, as well as the development of biochemicals and bioproducts derived wholly or partially from renewable, plant-based sources. Within the BIO4COAT project, Novamont will leverage its Bottrighe biorefinery to produce and validate three biobased building blocks (1,4-bioBDO, lcDCA, and biomethane) as key components in innovative biobased coating solutions.

    European Bioplastics (EUBP) association represents the bioplastics industries operating in Europe. It operates as a platform for networking, information sharing, and support the bioplastics sector's growth. EUBP works together with businesses, research organisations and policymakers to create a favourable policy and economic framework for bioplastics. In BIO4COAT, it liaises with other projects working on BIO4COAT topics to contribute to the joint development of policy recommendations for the implementation of the Safe and Sustainable by Design framework.

    KNEIA is a SME specialised in providing support to research organisations along the research value chain with a special focus on environmental and circular economy approaches. KNEIA is expert in Scientific Dissemination, Communication, Open Science and Market Research in EU Projects.

  • Portugal

    The Logoplaste Innovation Lab, a R&D dedicated business unit of Logoplaste, drives cutting-edge packaging solutions by combining advanced design, sustainable materials, and circular economy principles—reinforcing Logoplaste’s leadership in “hole-in-the-wall” manufacturing and just-in-time delivery of innovative plastic packaging. Within BIO4COAT, they will validate coatings in extreme and demanding conditions, and they will contribute to circularity assessment and co-design activities

With deep know-how in PVD and ceramic coating technologies, we create innovative and sustainable solutions that minimize friction, extend tool life, and optimize manufacturing processes. Our strength lies in combining cutting-edge technology with a strong commitment to sustainability. Through close collaboration with industry partners and research institutions, we develop next-generation surface treatments that replace traditional, harmful methods with cleaner and more efficient alternatives. In the BIO4COAT project, CemeCon Scandinavia A/S pioneers new sustainable PVD coatings for plastic moulding tools — advancing a more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible manufacturing industry in Scandinavia and beyond.

    The Italian chemical company specializes in chemical solutions for textiles, nonwovens, coatings, and adhesives, offering a broad portfolio of high-quality, innovative, and flexible products. Backed by advanced R&D and four automated plants, it is committed to sustainability and customer satisfaction. Within BIO4COAT, the company will scale up and validate the synthesis and formulation of biobased polyurethanes (bioPUs), supporting the transition to safer, high-performance coating solutions.

    The Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), established in 2000 and supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation, is a leading research institution in Greece renowned for its scientific and technological excellence. CERTH advances sustainable development through cutting-edge multidisciplinary research in energy, environment, digital technologies, biosciences, and transport. Within BIO4COAT, CERTH’s Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) leads the development of the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework and conducts rigorous life cycle impact assessments of bio-based coating solutions to ensure safety, sustainability, and regulatory compliance. CERTH/CPERI also drives the development of an advanced digital platform for real-time evaluation and transparent documentation through Digital Product Passports.

    The University of Padua is one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious institutions, with over 70,000 students and a strong reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and student services. Its Department of Economics and Management "Marco Fanno" (DSEA), EQUIS accredited in 2024, is a leading center for research and education in economics and business, with strong research experience related with innovation dynamics and sustainability strategies. Within BIO4COAT, UNIPD will lead the development of business models for biobased coating solutions. It will also coordinate the collection of interest in bilateral and multilateral training and research activities

  • Denmark

    Aarhus University (AU) is a leading research institution, ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide. It offers internationally recognized research, unique infrastructure, and strong partnerships across academia and industry. AU hosts its own biogas-based energy park, enabling the integration of fundamental and applied science. Within BIO4COAT, AU will lead the purification of biomethane produced from biorefinery processes. Its expertise supports the development of sustainable solutions aligned with the project’s environmental goals.
